Dr. Allred often says that his love for orthopedics started in high school. He worked in the OR transporting patients and cleaning the floors between surgeries. “When I saw my first orthopedic surgery, I was hooked. It just took one surgery.”
Dr. Allred was born in Utah and grew up in a small town in South East Texas. He left to start his training which took him all across the country. The first 15 years of his career were spent in Denver Colorado where he had a very busy practice treating complex patients that were referred by other orthopedic surgeons. He also spent time teaching and training surgeons from across the world at arthroscopy conferences designed to help them improve their surgical skills. Eventually, he fell in love with flying and realized he missed small towns and the people in them and decided to make a career change. He returned to Utah and currently flies to smaller towns in Nevada and Wyoming to perform surgery. He wishes he would have made the change years ago because he loves working the patients in small towns.
He cherished his time working with with collegiate and professional teams such as the Oklahoma Sooners and San Diego Padres but what he really loves is “taking care of normal people that need the help.”
He attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Oklahoma University and finished with a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy fellowship in San Diego. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. He is a member of AAOS, AANA, and AOSSM.
Dr. Allred describes his wife as “better than me.” They have 5 kids with one grandchild. He enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and watching rodeos.
